Content Lifecycle Management – One topic at the german Plone Konferenz Munich

Managing the life of digital assets has evident importance for every company today. You can bury your data very easy with cheap storage. Easy storing should save time because only a minor percentage of the stored data needs retrieval later. The challenge is that nobody can apply the filter in advance. Storing in advance is obviously only one part of the solution. To avoid storing twice or more often is one amoungst others. If it comes to quality knowledge management is more important than data warehousing, because knowledge is the essence of information. Finally wisdom is choosing the right one(s) from the available answers.

Today we use multiple architectures for storing and retrieving information. The easiest and fastest is not Google but your brain. Sharpen this tool gives you the chance to taylor your memory to a storage of rules to create fresh thougths instead of using a trashcan of used facts.

Systems that can process rules can be used to implement and support flexible workflows. Without them you are attached to strings as if to be controlled by a puppeteer. If you can change these rules yourself you are only limited by your imagination.

OpenSource software can lead you to create such flexible systems and give the chance of being part of a development by a free community. The talk will focus the lifecycle of digital content from creation until the decline of its life in an archive or the migration to new systems. This is the successor of a similar talk the author gave 2006 at the DZUG Tagung in St. Augustin, Germany. An essay based on these facts related to the popular OpenSource CMS Plone is available in german.

Simply Digital – Using OpenSource tools managing the life of your very own data

Keeping your digital life in motion – may have been already recognized as a challenge of its own. While "digital natives" play around with new devices all other generations are becoming aware of some of the benefits of new media and social media communication. During the transition to a more digital world, classic media still performs out some of the volatile information that is unreachable if the servers are down.

Classic manuals are anchors if electronic media from the cloud is not available. While for a lot of use cases eBooks can be the better choice, a classic book is emotionally more enduring and can be more appreciated. This value is grounded in very the basic instincts of human existence. Personal touching, smelling, tasting are still not reachable by electronic devices – and should not be!

The documented knowledge for exploring these universes should survive the next erasure of your electronic device. The Illusion of having history saved in digital form is a dream you may awake from too late. So managing your digital life needs skills to manage information and exformation. Yes – getting rid of unnecessary stuff is more evident than ever with electronic collection of data.

Evenios is currently developping a new edition of books aiming at simplifying your workflows using software you can control yourself. You should be the master of migration of your data into and out of every storage you use to collect your electronic assets.

The cloud is nice to move in – but it's nice to know the way out too!

Be curious...

The Python Software Foundation decided to choose evenios publishing as a partner for evaluating the project of creating a brochure related to the Python Programming Language. Python was elected the Programming Language of the Year 2010 and is know for clearness an elegant development style. The brochure is intended to promote the usage of Python in business, science, industry, education, media, government, public sector and charity. Target groups are CIOs and chief developers, scientists and programmers, university lecturers, teachers and students, customers, clients, managers and employees.

19th April, Wolfeboro Falls, USA. The Python Software Foundation and evenios publishing finally signed the contract for the english "Python Programming Language" brochure.

In April 2010, one of the PSF board members, Marc-André Lemburg, sat down in a local WorldPloneDay meeting and started reading the then new Plone brochure. It occurred to him, that Python was in need for a similar high quality brochure. Fortunately, the two key figures in producing the Plone brochure, Armin Stroß-Radschinski and Jan Ulrich Hasecke, were present at the same WorldPloneDay meeting. So we got in touch, discussed the idea and started to work out a proposal for the Python Software Foundation (PSF) to underwrite a project for producing the first PSF Python Brochure with a 10,000 copy first edition. By December 2010 the PSF had approved the project, and since January 2011 we're busy working out message, structure and content of the brochure. evenios publishing is responsible the production including sponsoring, distribution and logistics.

Python is increasingly used worldwide and choosen i.e. by NASA, Google, Rackspace, Microsoft, Apple, Disney and Lucasfilms ILM for mission critic application development. Python programs can be platform independent developed and tested much quicker than with Java, C or PHP and provides first class security records.
